You will remember from our last episode that Let's Anime got a DMCA takedown notice, and that I felt it was bogus, and I counter-claimed it. Well, Google got back to me today.



So I guess there IS justice in the galaxy after all! It's still not back up, I'm going to fix some of the images and re-jigger it a bit, but it's nice to get vindicated.

I say call it a victory and call it good. All too often these things go the other way just because you're just a person doing a thing, not BIG MONEY.

You'll probably end up having to update the thing anyway, what with Yamato 2199, Yamato 2202, the amazing fail of Voyager's attempt to bring Y2199 to American home video, the shocking frustration that Y2202 is NOT (seemingly) going to have English subtitles so die-hard fans willing and able to import are screwed and so on.

Or not. :)

there's been a real boom in remakes and reboots and reimaginings lately, of all sorts of properties, and at first I fully intended to keep up with them, but it's like playing whack-a-mole. I fully intend to cover RE: Cyborg and 009 Vs Devilman and Call Of Justice Fail and that CG Harlock movie and 2199 and 2202 and whatever happens with this new Mazinger thing, but so many! it's an embarrassment of riches. Or an embarrassment of something, in certain cases.

Yeah, that might be a better take, doing something on the remake-revival wave of stuff. I wonder how much of it is done with a coldly cynical "well, we don't really give a snot but this allows us to keep our copyrights and trademarks going by grandfathering the originals with these remake/reboot/revive projects"

I watched a little of the Netflix 009 and man. I mean, the story seems like it should be interesting but that whole 'CG Rotoscope' crap is just terrible. The designs make no sense and everything is so damn bland and slow. All the edges have been filed off and the missiles replaced with giant rubber plungers that are glued into the launchers. If you take my meaning.

It reminds me of my feelings on the 'Thunderbirds are Go!' CG puppet show without the 'made by super-intense fanboys who really loved the original but somehow have no idea how to actually craft a story with drama or tension or danger or anything' underpinnings.
