and yet more fake sleaze
Apr. 10th, 2015 04:37 pmLook, I know comic books are largely trash for subliterate morons, but comic books don't have to keep rubbing our noses in it.

Stupid Comics is back again with a terrible 90s "bad girl" vampire comic crossed with a terrible 90s "fake manga" comic that pushes all the buttons of hacked-out cynical exploitation in a way that only the greed of the 90s can really highlight. Who bought these things? Why? Why were they made in the first place? Who knows? The answers will NOT be found at this week's Stupid Comics.
So what else have we been up to? I've been working on another Let's Anime review, been assembling footage for the Anime Hell presentation at the upcoming Anime North, swapping emails about both AN and AWA in an attempt to get panels and things sorted, been putting new headlights in the car and new stuff up on the Mister Kitty etsy and drawing something every day.
This weekend is the Ad Astra SF convention, and it's also supposed to be warm and sunny, and there's a "collectibles show" in Kitchener on Sunday, so we might drop in on Ad Astra or we might just go out to Kitchener and look at old junk and get some sun. I haven't decided. There's a whole bunch of straightening and cleaning and laundry and general housekeeping things that have been sort of sliding during the long, demoralizing winter that ought to be taken care of at some point, I think; that's probably Saturday. I've been putting a lot of stuff off (like, Anime Hell) for most of February and March, and now it's time to really get to work. See you in June, I guess.

What makes me laugh, helps ease the pain, is the wacky way the art swipe goes from Kenichi Sonoda to Adam Warren and back again. Not exactly DIRECT swipes because that would make the art competent, but more like swipes of swipes.
Isn't it funny how in this time of year, you get a nice day, temps in the high 50s or so, and some nice sunlight, and just...walking around makes you actually feel OK. Like solar powered.
I gotta drain the gas and change the oil in the lawnmower. NOT THAT YOU CARE MR. CONDO MAN with your not mowing the lawn anymore and stuff. And maybe some cooking out if the wind calms the f**k down.

I am in dire need of warm weather and sunshine. I am sick to DEATH of the graveyard skies we've had.

Date: 2015-04-11 09:51 pm (UTC)Back In The Day, I knew a fellow who spent years on an epic "manga style" adventure comic he kept shopping to publishers with no success, it was an unholy mashup of elements begged, borrowed and stolen from practically every reasonable popular action/sci-fi anime or manga from the 80s and early to mid 90s - a dash of Akira here, some Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell there, some Bubblegum Crisis, some Venus Wars, maybe some mech designs lifted from Patlabor and the faces and character designs were something on par with an 80s faux-manga like Reggie Byer's "Shuriken" or that comic "Metal Bikini". A grisly stitched together experiment, like when a mad scientist puts together a monster out of parts from different animals. He never got around to selling it to anyone, at least by 2004, which was the last time I had any contact with him.
