get with the MOC
Feb. 25th, 2015 07:38 pmHere's a rockin' trip down the tunnel of convention failure; a look at Magnum Opus Con, that con that started out as a bustling multi-media fandom thing and turned into a liquored-up party battle slave auction bimbo pageant, that turned into a paranoid circular firing squad of bannings and criminal trespass warnings.

Let this be a cautionary tale and a warning to the ages!

It seems to me, as a total outsider, part of the MOC ConChair's attendance building strategy was "Hey, look! REAL GIRLS show up! FOR REALS!".
But as the '90s faded away and the New Century bloomed, girls, pretty girls, girls in costumes even, were more and more 'normal' at any convention. Except maybe Worldcon. I fully expect that to be strictly stuck in the '80s.
And yes, I sound like a completely horrible sexist pig. Doesn't change the reality of the place and time. :)
