I'm loving these "Georgie Girls" strips Shain has been doing, but this one's a fave, because it's happened to me quite a few times.

One in particular I recall; I was setting up Anime Hell at a Central one year, and one guy was really interested in getting me to show a music video by somebody. He had it in his hand and everything. Sorry, I don't show things I haven't already checked out myself. But this video was by Bob McBobbob! You haven't heard of Bob McBobbob? He's a big name in the anime music video world! You MUST have heard of him!

Nope, sorry.

Dude spent the next 20 minutes trying to convince everyone nearby with a staff badge that they should talk me into showing the video. Sorry man.

Ya know, I think I remember that. Do I? I recall you being a little tipsy and thinking it was just the s**t this guy thought he could in some manner MAKE you show his crappy vid.

Because it was of course epic and life changing. Of course it was.

You might have actually been there. The guy simply did NOT want to take "no" for an answer. I love it when fans get like that, when they think they can just say 'i want it' and I have to let them because they said 'i want it.' It's amazing the power you have when you absolutely do not give a crap. I'm sure that guy still thinks I'm a dick, but I've been burned before by somebody who hands me a totally boring video and begs me to inflict it on the crowd. Never again.

well, and besides, it's YOUR F'SKING SHOW.

You've spent time culling and selecting and organizing. You've got your 'playlist' set up, with a selection of alternate subjects on hand just in case.

Sometimes you're more organized than others, but no matter what you do have a plan.

And it's a proven formula.

So, yeah, of course you should totally derail all that for Mr. Special Snowflake and his BEST VIDEO EVAH FOR REALS DUDE!

It's funny, I had kind of a two-stage reaction to that. First, I thought to myself, "Huh, that never happened to us running the AZ Hell." Then I thought, "You know, it is really odd that that never happened to us running the AZ Hell."

Never did, though. Every year, kids just sat there reasonably politely and watched the show. Unusual behavior for a thousand fanboys, but there ya go.

Conversely, I did have one of the UK's more prolific subbers come to me and try to persuade me to show some OVA in one of the discretionary slots at the end of a con. I gave in, arm twisted, somewhat against my better judgement; I'd never heard of Read or Die. That time, the guy was right. :-/
