Andy Griffith passed on and it's like we all lost a member of the family. One of Hollywood's rare class acts, a true gentleman and a fine actor who charmed us all as Mayberry's sheriff, but who could deliver menace when needed (see "A Face In The Crowd", asap), he is someone I think we'll all miss.

And us being who we are, we're marking the occasion by taking a look at the comic book version of the Andy Griffith Show.

It's a fairly stupid comic drawn by the same guy who drew the "Twist" comic and I'm pretty sure nobody from the TV show was consulted in any manner concerning the story or the art. We also have some Griffith-themed Found Sound for ya as Andy sings 'House Of The Rising Sun' and Don Knotts does standup. I could swear to beejeezus that I owned an Andy Griffith LP at one point but darned if I can find it now.

In other news it's been a tough week; work's been busy and traffic is amazingly terrible. I've been going in later to cover for the night guy who's off on vacation, and it would normally be tough to make it to work at that time because of normal rush hour volume. Add construction road closures, road closures due to the Molson Indy at the CNE, road closures due to fires and accidents, and you have a nightmare of punishment out there on the roads.

We are getting our ducks in a row for our summer vacation, which is back to Japan for us. Yup, we are throwing caution and our retirement fund to the wind and heading back to Tokyo for a couple weeks of sightseeing and shopping. If you're curious about our last trip you can check out my journal here and work your way forward for more stories and pictures. So as you see, we are just familiar enough with Tokyo to get really, really lost. It's gonna be really hot, but let's face it. This summer it's really hot EVERYWHERE.

i'm guessing not, but i was wondering if you had any insight into why there's some sort of italian stamp (cancellation?) on that comic. how weird.

Haven't the faintest idea where that stamp comes from. We got this out of a box of $2 comics in the basement of a store in Hamilton. Or maybe out of a $3 box of comics in the AN dealers room. It's a great mystery!

That's why I love comics that somebody wrote on, or signed, or doodled on; taking a mass produced object and making it one of a kind.
