Workin' the mine of old Anime Jump reviews, today Let's Anime takes you to old London town and the adventures of Sherlock Holmes if he was a cartoon dog animated by Hayao Miyazaki. One more blog post this year and I will match 2010- and I intend to beat that record!!

And next year, we get YOUNG MISS HOLMES, the translated CHRISTIE HIGHTENSION manga. I wonder if there is an animated version of that in the works.

What I want is a copy of THE CASEBOOK OF CHARLOTTE HOLMES.

This is a show that needs to be license-rescued. I'm not a fan of double-sided DVDs because they always seem to have problems, but I'd take the risk for this show. I do kinda prefer the Bandai double disc way as they did with Samurai Troopers however.

I have to say, the Miyazaki episodes are rather stand out compared to the others. There was an episode about kites (a very, very Japanese episode I might add) where at one point Moriarty engaged in some very American 'silly comedy time-killing running around and around' action. Mind, when that sort of thing happens in a Miyazaki episode there's a bazillion things going on and not just a repeated loop. You know what I mean. :)

Let's not neglect the famous Mrs. Hudson. Wowzers. And Sexual tension with Holmes so thick you could cut it with a knife and boil it.

I think there were a couple of subtle hints that Holmes' red-headed league was in place.

Man, those backgrounds are just fantastic. Just stunning.

You can't watch that 'airmail' episode, see Mrs. Hudson drive to the rescue and NOT be totally charmed and enthralled by the show.

The Miyazaki episodes are definitely better. We were skipping through one disc trying to find an episode and kept hitting ones he didn't work on. They try, but that extra layer of detail just isn't there.

Man, I had a Mrs. Hudson image I forgot to put in the post! Gotta go fix that.

There's a kind of...what, flatness? to those episodes. I might even dare say soulless.

As if they were following the instructions but just didn't really GET it.

There's no real way to explain it. It's perception I guess. Most would just look and not see any difference whatsoever.
