Today Stupid Comics takes a bionic look at a super cyborg who was using his amazing powers to punch people and drive cars. So really, I don't know they were getting their six million dollars worth.

I don't know if any of you who grew up with this show have watched it recently, but I urge you do so... you will be amazed at how tedious the whole thing is. Slowly paced, badly acted, everything is shot on the Universal backlot, even tropical islands and African nations. Special effects are (a) noises and (b) slowing the film down. I'm shocked at how popular the show was. Meanwhile in Japan they were cranking out shows like KIKAIDA fifty times a week that were ten times as cheap and a hundred times more entertaining. Anyway, you may now get your bionic on with this comic book, which looks like it was drawn by three separate people and written by the William Burroughs cut-paste method. I read the thing several times and it still doesn't make any sense.

All New Wayne!

Not sure what's going on with that cover. How did the motorcycle get over Steve's head, and why the rifle? Heck, why is there a scope on the rifle? And Steve must have some huge hands to hold on to a motorcycle tire.

I'm unsure exactly how you would use a scoped rifle while riding a motorcycle. In fact, riding a motorcycle and using any kind of pistol or rifle is probably a bad idea. What you really need is a sidecar with a submachine-gunner. But this is Charlton Comics we're talking about here... making sense was never one of their strong suits.

I remember tracking down the original novel ("Cyborg" by Martin Caidin) and enjoying it. The TV show was ok to watch as a kid but is just painful now.

Funny comment on that subject: paging through a bunch of old Playboys yesterday, I noted that Miss August '78 lists her Secret Dream as "to be shipwrecked on an island with Lee Majors."
