The sleeping catfish deep below ground swished his tail again and rocked our world yesterday. Yes, we felt it up here on the 5th floor... the rhythmic vibration that gives you that 'slightly drunk' feeling. It feels like somebody took a giant earth-mover or a steam shovel or some piece of huge construction equipment, backed it up to the building, and slightly nudged back and forth. It's powerful, yet eerily gentle. This one was a tad more powerful than last year's earthquake, it lasted long enough for me to realize what it was, to ask Shain if I was feeling what I thought I was feeling, for her to reply, and for me to instantly get on Twitter and see what people were saying about it from Boston to VA.

Brian at Anime News Network has nice things to say about the Colony Drop fanzine, including singling out my piece for special praise. Fascinating thing about the CD book - "the last American fanzine" - is it's a print-on-demand available from HP. This new zine technology completely obviates the most annoying thing about fanzines - actually producing the physical magazines. Photocopying, stapling, folding, schlepping from fan club meeting to convention trying to sell them, shoving them into envelopes and hoping you didn't forget somebody on your subscription list; such a pain. If I ever do another print zine, POD is the way to go. (and that's a big if.)

Fascinating discussion on the Animecons mailing list about the legality of selling contact lenses without a prescription at anime cons. You know, those cosmetic eye-color changing contact lenses that cosplayers use? You know how they sell them at conventions without prescriptions or notes from doctors? That's totally against the law. I figured it was just some complainey optometrist bitchin' about the competition, but nope, it's in violation. Don't do it.

In other news... been working, mostly. Worked all weekend, work all this week. There's a wedding this weekend and that means I need to get a new shirt and make sure my shoes are shined. My birthday is Friday! http://amzn.com/w/33XQQ6Y0LCDU1
