We picked up this metal sign last Sunday at the antique show at the Brick Works. Some amazing stuff at that show, most priced beyond my reach. This sign was cheap - it's not in great shape, but that's OK.

Today I had a hankerin' to go find a particular book, so we walked over to Parkdale and visited The River Trading Company, a locally owned used bookstore that opened last winter and still has a big blank piece of wood up where its signage ought to be. This place is great; a really interesting selection at reasonable prices and they had the book I was looking for. And a friendly store cat. Can't beat that! If you're in the neighborhood you should check 'em out.

Well, not to put more work on you, have you considered offering to paint their sign?

Make sure to work in Atom symbols and traditional rocket ships. and maybe a big magnifying glass. :)

Seriously, I am guessing their money is tight or it would have been done by now, right? Just a suggestion.

I have no idea. They do have a logo, it will go nicely in the space, I'm sure they'll get around to gettin' it up there.

I've never painted a sign in my whole life, that's an entire set of skills I don't even know the first thing about.

Not being an artist, all I can imagine is it's not much different from drawing on a large piece of paper. You sketch out the layout on graph paper, transfer it to the board using pencil, then get all painty, then seal it with some clear acrylic.

Or make stencils and spray it on.

Who knows? today, bookstore sign, tomorrow, VANS!

And hey, you might be a hero to them, solving a problem.
