I had scanned in a bunch of ads for this week's Stupid Comics, and then I started thinking about some other ads I'd seen, so I had to go digging some more, and found those ads, a whole bunch of them, so this week's Stupid Comics took a whole new direction and was late. I'm sorry. Anyway here he is in all his glory, PUD.

If that doesn't make you want to chew Dubble Bubble I don't know what will! Also choice ads for White Cloverine Brand Salve, good for what ails ya and also good for shipping firearms through the mail to minors. It's all waiting for you in Stupid Comics!

Had never seen one of those! Though the parody of those ads in MAD seems to be accurate --

I am still trying to figure out what kind of hat it is that girl is wearing. It looks like something Brownies or elves wear in children's book illustrations, not like something real kids ever wore.

NEXT TIME PUD WILL GIVE YOU A BIGGER BLAST

My favorite old Mad ads are the ones that parodied the Johnson Smith Co. ads with the teeny type. "Imagine the looks on your friends faces when you shoot them with the REAL POISON DARTS. Can also be used with the THROWING KNIFE and the CROCODILE. Wow."

I don't think the girl is wearing a hat. I think it's a kerchief, the knot hidden under her hair.

There was an episode of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, in its color era, when Opie took up the salve-selling racket and was disappointed with his lack of success. Barney and Goober (or was it Gomer?) ran a scam on the salve company that made them buy back Opie's stock and refund his capital investment. That plot has been imitated ever since by dozens of sitcoms.

Really, I hate that I know this.

Makes me wonder when Dubble Bubble changed its shape and format to the current little cylinders with the twisted wrapper. The Dubble Bubble presented here is just like Bazooka, rectangular with a folded wrapping and cartoons inside.

(what? what are you people looking at me like that for?)

Not looking at anything, I'm with you on that. Dubble Bubble as it is now looks like it comes from the Playdoh Fun Factory.

but boy, I miss the days when there were OPTIONS in your gum buying, huh? By the piece, or in 5, 15 and 20 piece packs, huh?

I also miss the Grape and Cherry Bazooka gum. It shows up sometimes and if I had a resale license I know a place where I can buy tubs of it, or at least used to. Not that I should, mind.
