Last of the Mister Kitty updates for the year are complete and not having to have a strip ready for Sunday, it's like a vacation! We'll have to buy some presents in Atlanta to get the Xmas thing complete, but we're done here, all that needs to happen is some packing and a little drive. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. The first Christmas we were up here, we flew out of Buffalo and right across the Lewiston bridge it started snowing. By the time we got to the airport it was a blizzard. Remember, this is me, just moved to Canada, my experience in snow driving was extremely limited, my car was the white Honda with the everything starting to die... it was quite an exciting little trip there. Then our flight got delayed, we got stuck in Detroit for a day, it was a real odyssey.

Which reminds me I probably need to find some books to take along on the trip. Might stop by the library on the way out.

On the subject of Christmas cards. Every year I think how neat it would be to do Christmas cards, and every year I don't do them. I'm 41, I guess if I was ever going to do Christmas cards I would have done them already. I dunno, maybe next year (that's something I say every year, too.)

We did put the lights up on the balcony, though. If I could figure out a way to get the lit angel propped up in the window, we'd get that up there. I don't want to hang it outside because a gust of wind might just take it out entirely (and it's 1960 vintage, don't want that to happen) and there's really nothing to hang it on unless I feel like drilling holes in the window frames, which I don't want to do. Maybe build some kind of light wooden framework to support it, I dunno. Next year, for sure!

Donald and David came over last night and we watched SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO RESURRECTION, again for me and Shain but their first time. Still holds up as a sweeping, gorgeous space opera, big, emotive, overwrought, unashamed of its romanticism. It was an interesting film to talk to Yamato fans about; we showed it at AWA and the reaction was mixed, but most of the criticism was, I think, motivated more by this being the first Yamato film in 26 years and the film failing to live up to 26 years worth of anticipation, of unconscious fan wishes, of the movie being what it is and not the fantasy movie everybody has in their heads that pushes all their personal fan pleasure-center buttons. Also no Desslok. But Donald and David liked it fine, and they're no strangers to Yamato. Of course I think this film was kind of overshadowed by the then-upcoming live action film looming ahead, but RESURRECTION stands on its own perfectly well. Can't wait to see the next one.

Yay YAMREZ! Our newly-fansubbed DVD will be on its way to you this week, so you may want to see it again soon.

What we watched was the fansub from, you know, the "Star Force", and the audio was kinda funky. Dialog was sounding like it was in another room, sound FX were fine, though. I don't know if it's the encoding or what. So I'm curious to see if your burning of the fan sub will be like my burning of the fan sub, here in the burning times. Or "Ye Burning Tymes" as they say in Salem MA.

"Star Force" is indeed my gang of miscreants. The DVD will have all those audio problems fixed. Or at least it better, we've been fighting to subdue them for weeks now.

To my knowledge, there is only one fansub other than ours. Haven't watched it for comparison. Don't really want to.
