Also, Neil Nadelman has an eBay. He's selling a rare Gattai DX style vintage diecast Gundam toy that is honestly an amazing piece. If you have a spare several hundred bones lying around and have been jonesing for some 70s style Gundam SATISFACTION then THIS is the PLACE to GET that ACTION.

I can't say as there will be any vintage Gundam goodness at the SF/ANIME FLEA MARKET this Saturday, but on the other hand I'll be there with a wide assortment of stuff! Old comics, old Comics Journals, a turntable, 45 singles, DVDs, books, CDs, who knows what else will get hauled out there?

Doors open at 10am! Bring money! If you know any movie stars in town for the TIFF, bring them along!

My apologies via proxy. I think my mind crossed up Neil's sale with Patrick Macis' sale.

It's got funk. Clover did some fun things. I lust after the White Base die-cast they made. It's not very 'on model' either but it's chunky sexy.

I'm not a stickler for on-model but the all-chrome Gundam Gattai DX is really cheesy looking, it looks really cheap and knock-offy. I had to blink a few times at the one I saw at A-Kon to reassure myself it was an actual Gundam product. Of course all the silly ancillary stuff (beam poleax?) doesn't help.

I would buy pretty much anything die-cast, though, if the price was right. I like a good piece of metal.

I was surprised Neil's been eBaying for so long!

Pardon me for being pedantic. :)

The reason the Clover Gundam looks as goofy as it does is, the toy design was 'locked down' while the project was still called 'Gunboy' and it hadn't undergone the final revision. 'Gunboy' looked to be more like Zanbot 3, and so many Gundam fans just don't understand how 'super robot' Gundam is. I know you get it, it's so in your face. :)

Everything in that box was real to 'Gunboy'. Everything.

I note with laughter that the goofy dagger/axe thing eventually got incorporated into Gundam via the beam dagger/axe thingie in Char's Counterattack.

Oh yeah, you can really see the painful scars of the, shall we say, reassignment surgery, that turned a super robot into a Real Robot.

Watching the original Gundam series there's a big chunk of episodes in the middle where things are gettin' pretty "super."

I've never been a big fan of the Real/Super divide, though. It's a arbitrary designation that only REALLY works for things like Votoms or Dougram on the one hand, and Grandizer on the other. Plenty of robots in the murky middle.

agreed 100%.

I mean, look at the 'brave' three (Combattler V, Voltus V and Daimos), all leading to Zambot 3 (side trip of serio-comedy with Daitan 3) and then, Gundam.

I would say, from all I've read, that Zambot 3 has just as much 'claim' to the start of the 'real robot' stuff as Gundam, if by 'real robot' we're talking about intense stories about chara who suffer and stuff, with long term arcs.

Or something.

Just wish there was someone brave enough to dip into the catalogs and release these shows in R1. Bah.
