There is actually quite a bit of things going on in the area that is of attractive nature to such as myself. Right now I haven't the disposable income to waste on junk, but maybe I can save some pennies. Anyway, it's nice to see all these events happening, always something to do.

NO! Remember the Law of Zardoz! The Penis is Bad! The Gun is Good!

*ahem*

If I had money I fear what I would do, going to some of those shows. If someone had old Remco 'Monkey Division' toy guns I would lose my mind and spend spend spend.

You know what I saw 2 of on our trip? The "Johnny Reb" toy Civil War cannon. I'd never seen one ever, and then suddenly there's two of them.

Also, the vinyl "Pogo" figures. Never seen them for sale at any price, suddenly here's three of them in varying locations and at varying price points. Go fig.

Ardith used to be huge for Pogo and coveted those things badly. And the Johnny Reb Cannon, that's seemingly one of the grails of the old toy guns n' stuff crowd. I have no idea why that is.

But what the hell do I know? I have a fixation on Monkey Division, which was all basically 'how high tech American weapons would win the (un-named jungle) war', and some of that was pure M.A.R.S. Patrol, baby. A helmet with built-in nightvision and communications, all manner of strange machine guns and grenade launchers... it was all about the late '50s vision of the Warrior of Tomorrow. And ya know what? There's very very little about this toy line out on the web. Heck, there's more about 'Hamilton's Invaders' than 'Monkey Division'!

*sigh* Time Machine. Where's my Time Machine.

I can't recall if Emma or I ever mentioned this to you, but we used to joke that Kodai Susumu looks like a human version of Pogo. I have no idea how this started, but now I think about Yamato every time I hear of or see Pogo. XD I think I need to draw this...

He does, kind of.. same sort of round head punctuated by spiky little bits of hair. There's probably a good drawing waiting to be made of the Pogo cast as Star Blazers characters...

I think it's the nose. Not when Tiger Pro did the animation but the other guys, who give Kodai that rounder face and kinda pug nose. I'm sure everyone can picture exactly what I mean...

Haha, and his little rounded/upturned nose! Bwehehehe, this is something to work on before AWA for sure. >:3

ETA: Haha, Steve beat me to it! I think that's one of the things I love so much about older anime; before tons of characters' noses looked so sharp they could put your eyes out! Say what one will about "Naruto," but I did find those character designs more appealing than most other shows from circa 2004-2005 and a big part of that was the noses!

Hey, I just observe. :)

But it's the heart of the older show, animators, chara designers who are actually interested in creating CHARACTERS, giving them life with a few brush strokes because they knew the actual animation would be limited.

Yas, Komatsubara, other guys I am ignorant of, and of course Nagai and Matsumoto and Ishinomori and even 'Tommy' Ashida. Oh, and the guy who did the original TV Dirty Pair chara work.
