The Otakon dealers room, while large and enlivened by the ear-splitting musical choices of That Guy Who Sells Yaoi Doujinshi, failed in several respects, notably in giving me the kind of crazy obscure-o old school anime junk that I like to spend money on. Luckily the antique malls of America's Heartland were more than willing to take up the slack.

That's right, it's a Captain Future children's lunch utensil box. Don't ask me what it was doing in a booth in an antique mall nestled in the hills of Coal Dust VA, because I don't know.

The fork and spoon seemed to have gotten a little use. While the seal was broken on the chopsticks, I don't think they'd ever been used. Well, they take practice to master. You can find these for pretty much every show Toei releases, but finding one from a 32 year old cartoon... in the hills of western Virginia... what are the odds?

And of course you can wash your lunch down with a swig from your Josie & The Pussycats mug.

Total cost of both items together: less than $10.

That Guy Who Sells Yaoi Doujinshi

He's still around? I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Came here to say this. I saw him in the dealer's room at Anime Expo 2003

If it's the guy I remember, I last saw him screaming "CHECK OUT DUO'S TIGHT ASS" at Yaoicon III that year.

he's a menace. The cel dealer across the aisle asked us to register a complaint with the dealers room mgt. table because the shrieking noise was literally driving customers away from that side of the aisle.

The crazy part is that he has customers whether he hollers or not, whether he plays music or not. He's got a product people want. He does not need the music or the hollering to sell his product. So, I'm forced to assume he's doing it simply to be a complete asshole.

People who've worked with the guy have told me that this is exactly the case. The Hen Da Ne guy just loves doing whatever the hell it is that he thinks he's doing.

Best find, ever. That Josie and the Pussycats mug is awesomeness.

I'm jealous for the Captain Future set myself. I actually figured out the chopsticks thing long ago so it's no biggie for me.

Wished I had that Hashimoto-san comic book in my mitts too!

Take THAT Star Wars Lightsaber chopsticks! YOU don't have a groovy box to carry you around between meals!

What was that doing in a market in VA? Why, waiting for YOU of course!

Glad you guys had a good time! Welcome Home!

You always wonder the mysteries of the universe in this respect! Last Sunday at a Savers I picked up a Nintendo Virtual Boy for $5, and it works! It's not everyday I can get that lucky. Too bad the guy I know at a video game shop wouldn't sell me his Vectrex like he promised.

Awesome. I love anything Toei Captain Future. Finally bought a cheap VHS-DVD recorder...time to convert those CF tapes! As for Hashimoto...I think I have a tape of those old shorts, as well.
