Everybody likes to think they invented something, were the first to discover something, or were the first to (fill in the blank) something.

Thus there have always been and always will be people who, in the depths of their ignorance, are merely the latest first person to do whatever world-changing thing they have done.

It does not help that things which happened B.I. (before internet) didn't really happen in the same universe. If it's not in wikipedia, it didn't happen. If Google doesn't know about it, you're just lying. And some punk on a message board will be happy to correct you.
