Spent most of the weekend putting the loft bed together, with the major effort coming yesterday with Donald's engineering expertise helping us to lift the thing in the air and get it screwed into the posts. It's really solid and holds two adults and a cat perfectly comfortably, though the cat spent most of the night exploring this strange new structure. It's seven feet in the air but it shakes less than our old bed frame, which reminds me, does anybody want a Queen-sized bed frame? We have one we don't need any more.

And let me tell you after a day of climbing up and down ladders, screwing in #8 Robertson screws with the cordless drill, sanding bits of wood that don't quite fit any more, lifting frames and slats and boards... I can really feel it in my forearms and my legs and my back. I don't know if I'd want to install loft beds for a living.

I did get a Zero Fighter update completed as well, not an easy task after a day of carpentry. I guess that's why there aren't a lot of carpenter/comic artists. The story has moved into "part two".

Weather is gorgeous, the grass seedlings in the box are starting to sprout, the first mosquitoes of the year have appeared. Hope everybody who went to Wondercon or Anime Boston or Anime Punch had fun! Our next con will be Anime North, so get your passport and make a run for the border, you guys.

A seven foot high bed? All I can imagine that it's a bunk bed. I'd fall out the damn thing.

Yeah, it's a loft bed. We have 11 foot ceilings, so raising the bed up kind of gives us an extra room's worth of floor space. The sides of the bed are a little taller than the mattress, so there's a bit of a bump you'd have to go over before falling off. So far the only person who's exited the bed in an unauthorized fashion has been the cat, but if it looks like there's a safety issue I'll install some OSHA approved railing.

Wait a minute, there was a loft bed in the Science of Sleep. Derp.

Yeah it seemed pretty sweet now that I remember.
