Tread lightly, pilgrims... watch your head... LOOK OUT!! IT'S THE CRAZY GRANDMA COMIC BOOK PRICE GUIDE IN ACTION!!!

How much are you willing to pay for that copy of TUFF GHOSTS STARRING SPOOKY? Five dollars? Ten dollars? TWENTY DOLLARS? Think again, my pretty! Heh heh eh heh heh cough COUGH HACK COUGH OH JESUS PANT PANT pant.

Photobucket

Not ten or twenty or thirty or thirty-five - but forty whole dollars! Captured by the digital camera of intrepid explorers Shain and Dave as they delve deep, thrusting uncomfortably to penetrate the mysteries lurking within the caves - the CREEPY FREUDIAN CAVES starring HOT STUFF - of the World 'O Crazy Grandma Price Guide. You should probably go wash your hands now.

This was shot on Day One of this year's Xmas Odyssey at, obviously, the "L&K Antiques Mall" which is located on the 401 east of Windsor Ontario, north of Leamington (the Tomato Capital of Ontario) and somewhere within about a half-hour drive of Colasanti's Tropical Gardens, a farmer's market/roast chicken buffet/lawn and patio decor/petting zoo/tourist trap sort of place that's worth a stop if the weather's nice and you don't have anywhere in particular you need to be.

Other highlights of Day One of our trip include, um, getting gas, the US Customs guy being all attitudinal because the passports were not offered to him together in one simple motion, and being stopped by the Olympic Torch as it passed us in Windsor. And dinner at Bob Evans in Dayton and stopping for the night somewhere north of Louisville KY. Where Dave and Shain go, excitement follows!11!1!!! Can you feel it?

I remember an antique store in Statesboro had a two Where Monsters Dwell comics, one $18 and the other $20 sealed in large Ziplock bags. I passed.

and they have a system! They have a SYSTEM for that! LOOK at that label!

Insane. Just insane.

So what's the deal with the CCA mark being all not clearly visible on that issue? That seems unusual to me. But what do I know, I'm 'out' of the comic world.

Haha, that's awesome. Did you offer three dollars CASH for the book, just to see the crazy grandma clerk's face contort in fury at your clear misunderstanding of the comic book's value?

Just think. That book is still sitting there, and the store is still three dollars poorer than it COULD have been.

I just wonder which, if any, guide they're using for the pricing. I'm sure the place is FULL of items that have been there for a very, very long time.

Altho if they had any Remco 'Hamilton's Invaders' stuff I'd be all over that like a monkey on a coconut. That and Remco's earlier 'Monkey Division' toy line are moments of my youth I will someday recapture.

Those places are separated out into little booths, each with stuff owned by one dealer, but one checkout for everything; if the dealer happened to be there I could haggle, but if not, then you're out of luck.

I might go two bucks on a Tuff Ghosts, maybe. I don't buy a lot of the Harvey ghost books. I might pick up a Howie Post Hot Stuff now and then if the price is right but that's about it.

That issue of Tuff Ghosts has been there a solid year, at least; it was there in 2008 when we passed through on our way home from Youmacon.

OK, got it. I understand how the coding on the sticker works now.

I sort of miss the 'mini mall' concept that was all the rage in the...I want to say early '80s, where you take a dead 'big box' chain store and set up small shops inside. Here in G.R. several 'Yankee' stores got made over in that way. It died real fast, like maybe under 2 years.

I will make a prediction for 2010! If you drive to AWA this year and pass by that place, the comic will STILL BE THERE! OOOooooOOOOo do I scare you with my psychic powers? :)

Out of curiosity, I grabbed the current Overstreet--because that's the kind of office I work in--and even if it's in something called "NM- 9.2," that issue's only worth $22.00.

It's annoying when they do charge that much for a comic like that.
