June!

Hey gang. Anime North is over, we had fun and in spite of a torrential downpour on Saturday (right when I was zipping home to feed the cat) it was a lower-stress weekend for me, mostly because I FINALLY decided to let Guest Relations do their job and pick Neil and Mike up at the airport, rather than doing it myself. That means I didn't have to hit the airport ONCE. Got to hang out with some local pals I don't see often, and some long distance pals I'd never met in real life. Bought a bunch of cheap manga from the Beguiling table. Oishinbo is the real standout, I hadn't had a chance to read it and I really like the short story approach and all the cooking and restaurant detail makes it the kind of manga I'd hate at age 16 but now I really enjoy.

This year the show kind of started to show its age; the staffers are all getting older, there are problems with communicating schedule changes, there's a lot of inertia with the show's upper level staff, it's hard to make changes or streamline things against the tide of "if it ain't broke don't fix it." AN got away with it this year, but I feel this is kind of a wake up call for the convention.

Post AN I have been out on my bike more. Went to the Parkdale "Cowanation" yard sale with only one thing in mind to buy, a bike pump, and that's exactly what I came home with, an old foot-pump type that is just about perfect. Also the family was selling homemade samosas, 2 for $1, so I spent five bucks and got the pump and six samosas.

Work is slowing down for the summer but my dept. is busy because we have more regular daily print-on-demand type orders to fill, co-workers are starting to take vacations, and we keep getting handed special projects that take more time and energy to complete. Also the traffic this week is an absolute skull buster - 80 minutes in and 60 minutes back today because when it rains people go crazy, or something. Let me just say I appreciate my weekends a lot more.

I'm doing another Anime Hell on August 3 at Eyesore, I'm back to inking my story (I'm on the last page!) and at some point I'm going to have to get ready for AWA, but that's in October this year so we've got some relax time. No vacation plans this summer other than riding my bike, eating some chili dogs at the Oasis, and cooling my heels in the lake. And maybe a drive-in movie or two.
