What's been going on since I last posted here? Hm. Let's see. Crazed right wing loon mailed pipe bombs to Trump's opponents, different crazed right wing loon shot two people in a Kroger in Kentucky because, apparently, he was angry about white super heroes being turned black, and a third crazed right wing loon shot eleven people in a synagogue in Pittsburgh because complex racism and antisemitism. So it hasn't been a great past week or so. The election has everyone kind of stressed out, I think.

I voted, I got my absentee ballot and voted it and put it right back in the mail the next day, express to the US of A.

Put new tires on the car last weekend, spent more than I was intending, but these are decent tires that should last us a while. Considering I got like four years worth out of my last set, and they were super el cheapos, these Michelins should hold out longer.

Bought a new couch from a woman in the neighborhood who posted on the local FB group that she was moving and had a couch for $200. I thought about it, we went out for the day, came back, the sofa was now $150. I messaged her and asked if she'd take $100. She said "yes" so we got the hand truck and went down four blocks to her building. My dentist office is on the ground floor of the same building. Turns out the woman worked there and was my hygenist the last time I got a checkup, but she's moving to BC now. We manhandled the couch down the street and now we have a larger, nicer couch. Our old couch went to Eyesore - now they have two exact same cheap Ikea couches in their foyer.

I wasn't really feeling "Halloween" this year; we didn't buy any candy or carve a pumpkin or dress up in outfits or go to any haunted attractions. And part of that is because we had a bunch of other stuff we had to take care of, part of that is we don't have kids and Halloween is, or should be, largely about kids and candy, and part is because hey, at least as far as social media is concerned, Halloween never. goes. away. It's skull faces and pumpkins and costumes and zombies and werewolves 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every month, all year long. It's a little wearying, maybe. Anyway, Halloween is over for another year, so I feel I can say this today without unduly harshing anyone's sugar buzz.

BTW we watched some movies from Eyesore last week and they were:

STAR 80, the Dorothy Stratten biopic that is terrifically shot and edited, weirdly cocaine-free for being a film about sleazy late 70s sleazy people, and has a weirdly vacant third act because Bob Fosse didn't wanna get sued by Peter Bogdanovich (truth is stranger than fiction!)

SPOOKIES: legendary mid 80s horror/monster picture featuring lots of great monsters and monster type effects, lots of bad acting and an evil undead mastermind that reminds us of Martin Short playing Pierre Trudeau. This film had two directors and two completely different sets of actors and characters and was clumsily edited together by the producer. I guess this was the fashion in the 80s.

STUNT ROCK: vanity project by a director determined to turn an Australian stuntman into a movie star is equal parts bad acting, inexplicable stunts, and performances by the magic act/heavy metal band Sorcery which are great until the third or fourth time they show up and then they aren't so great any more. If you want a movie where people flash back to that time they were flung off a cliff into the ocean for absolutely no discernible purpose, or a movie where a guy dressed as a wizard shoots flame at a guy dressed as a devil who also shoots flame while a heavy metal band thuds in the background, then this is the movie for you.

We also caught up with the TEEN TITANS GO movie which is about like the TV show, goofy cartoon fun. ANNIHILATION is eerie and thoughtful and horrific in equal parts. That last AVENGERS movie is too long, has too many moving pieces, and survives largely on the charisma of its cast and the goodwill of its audience. HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE on Netflix was great, very much a family dynamic horror piece, intricately plotted, terrifically cast, check it out. The SABRINA show seems fine, but hey, I just got done watching one Netflix show about supernatural stuff in old houses and mortuaries, I can wait a few days before plunging right back in, okay?

I've been inking that story and it's moving right along. Using more crowquill pen and G-pen, working with smaller lines, overall I'm happy with the results.
