wow, it's March 24 already! The weeks have been whizzing by. Getting closer to that April/May season in which I have to do a lot of work to get ready for Anime North and Anime Next too. Also work is really busy now, which means all the neat stuff that starts happening in the city when the weather starts to warm up slightly is stuff I miss, at least today, because I gotta go to work today and soak up some of that sweet, sweet OT.

STUPID COMICS this week is all about dentistry.

The latest Let's Anime is a repeat of a 2005 review of a DVD set of a 1995 TV series called "Sailor Moon SuperS". You might have heard of Sailor Moon sometime, I dunno. It's kind of obscure.

Uh, what else have we been up to. Finally caught the Thor and liked it. Watched the Star Wars Last Jedi and it works better the second time, I find myself reverting to an 8 year old when I see these things in the theaters, all distracted by John Williams music and whizzing spaceships, so I can't pay attention to the finer details that a second viewing allows me to catch. Watching Jessica Jones 2 and Broadchurch and Pop Team Epic and Yuru Camp. Yuru Camp is perhaps the lowest-key anime series ever made, and it's just perfect for our hectic modern lifestyle.

Missed the AN staff meeting last weekend, missed the one before that, I'm slackin'. The kind of all-in energy I've been throwing at anime conventions for the past few decades, well, that energy is fading, I'm here to tell you. The older I get the less I want to keep blocking out entire weekends for these things, and at some point I'm going to turn into the guy that drops in to do his event and then vanishes again. Maybe that'll happen before I'm 60. Who knows?

Right now in Japan there's this "Anime Japan" event going on, and a lot of anime con reps from the States are over there right now. I can kind of see where this is necessary somewhat, but at the same time, I can also see where these people are getting a Tokyo vacation on some anime convention's dime, so they can wander around and pretend to be industry professionals for a weekend or so, and have a few meetings where everybody whips out their convention's inflated attendance figures for a big dick measuring contest, and then they go home. And sure, I'd love a Japanese trip on somebody else's dime, but if I was devoting every minute of my time to running an anime con the way these folks do, I'd be a wreck, an absolute wreck. The things kept getting bigger and bigger, and my stress level kept getting higher and higher, and yet, my ability to deal with the stress was not rising to meet it.

My solution: quit running anime cons, and eventually, watch Yuru Camp.
