hell aftermath
Jan. 14th, 2018 09:23 amAnime Hell at Eyesore went great! The room was filled, we had to bring more chairs up from the basement. My estimate is fifty people, which is a lot for an event in the back room of a video rental in the depths of sub zero January. Everybody seemed to enjoy it, we got donations enough to cover the coffee and donuts we brought, and the comments were positive and the people were friendly, well socialized grownups. One guy was from France by way of Catalonia and this was his first event in Toronto. Some people had seen Anime Hell at AN, others hadn't, some had thought the event was going to be some kind of AMV HELL thing and were happily surprised it wasn't. The shop has a gang of friends who hang out and help out at events, so there was a lot of assistance, I mostly had to show up and do my thing. We sold some zines too, which is always nice.
I'm definitely going to plan more events in that space; don't know if we'll be doing more than one actual Anime Hell a year there, but screenings of anime titles will be a thing, definitely, and I'm going to also do a zine show there when I get my WWII comic finished. I should get to work on that, I guess.
Today's plans are some much-needed cleanup and reorganization around this place!
