Punishingly bad Stupid Comics this week. It's another 80s black and white indy boom remnant, with all that entails; a meandering, go-nowhere story that digs into an early world-building flashback and never escapes, a "to be continued" ending in a comic book that only lasted one issue, inept artwork trying to hide behind supposedly interesting panel layouts that only confuse and irritate. It's all there!

The impetus behind the thing is a fakey Lewis Carroll pastiche (hence the girl's last name, GET IT?) that fails on every level. The back up story is an actual Lewis Carroll piece drawn by the comic author. There are also pinups and commissioned/fan art of the characters, which puts this one squarely in the category of this being somebody's Big Story they wrote in high school and kept plugging away at and never walked away from, and would take to comic cons and have other artists draw the characters and would probably bend everybody's ear at length about for years. Everybody has one of those stories and the secret is to know when to put them back in the box and move on.

What else is going on? The winter has been fairly mild but it's going to get cold this weekend. We've avoided the snow events that have hit the East Coast, but I know we'll get spanked sometime soon. It looks like we'll be hitting Anime Boston for at least one day, so if you're going to be at Anime Boston on Saturday, please check out the Anime Hell I'll be doing there Saturday night. Valentine's Day is this weekend and we're going to go over to the tiki bar and have a Scorpion Bowl. I want to get out to see "Hail Caesar" and the Star Wars again at some point. Maybe Monday, Monday's a holiday for us. Trying to carve out time to draw comics and it's tough to carve that time out.

Haven't been "sick" so far this year. I think part of why is that our co-worker, who had school-age kids at home, who would never get a flu shot, and who would show up to work sick two or three times a season, left us for another job in December. Another part of why is the flu shot *I* get every year.

I did have a few days over last weekend where I felt tired and run down and "like I was coming down with something". Used to be I'd just try to power through those days. Nowadays, I take that as a cue to dial things back, drink lots of fluids, and take it easy. By Monday I felt like my old self again.

It's a holiday weekend, the weather is supposed to be super cold on Saturday, Valentine's is Sunday, Monday everything's closed; maybe I'll get my comic book drawing time in this weekend. That story isn't going to finish itself!
