Saturday it was sunny and warm so we drove up to Orillia, north of Barrie, and did a little antique shopping (didn't find anything cool in our price range) and petted the two bookstore cats and went out to some nature trails and got some fresh air amid the melting remnants of winter.
Later Saturday night we watched THE BABADOOK which is a spooky Australian horror picture that is well made, creepy but not too creepy, wraps up satisfyingly, neither hopelessly grim nor stupidly upbeat. Works on the several levels necessary for a good horror picture - the personal, the psychological, the socio-political. We also watched SWITCHBLADE SISTERS aka THE JEZEBELS, an altogether less competently made early-70s girl-gang film that is ridiculously cartoonish, super trashy in an over the top kinda way that only needs a little nudge to push it over into ROCK AND ROLL HIGH SCHOOL comedy.
Sunday we did errands around town and I used my income tax refund to buy a Blue Snowball microphone for the computer so we can eventually do some kind of a podcast where we'll play goofy old records and talk about 'em. So look out!
In the meantime, your Mister Kitty update is that martial arts champion of all champions, Judo Joe!
Yes, Judo Joe, that teenage judo champion who learned Judo in Japan from actual Japanese people, one of whom had the fine Japanese name of "Wah Tung", which is not a Japanese name at all. So there's that. Check it out at Mr Kitty's Stupid Comics!
