Mar. 18th, 2014 12:07 pmDonald and David came over and we watched that new Harlock movie, and I was pleasantly surprised; it's a pretty good movie. It's its own thing, a new iteration of the character, of the Arcadia, of the whole mythos, and since they pretty much do that every time they do any Harlock media, I was ready for that, at least. There's lots of giant space opera stuff including fleets of starships blasting away, super ridiculous giant death-weapons, dialog callbacks to the '78 series, and a reason Harlock is so mopey alla time.

It's a CG film so the characters have that reanimated puppet look, and I'm not sold on the new Arcadia, but it works, for the most part. I was expecting a train wreck, and I got a pleasant surprise.
So that's why I was up so late on Sunday night, working on that day's Zero Fighter. I drew one page, redrew it, inked it, redrew and re-inked it AGAIN. It's still not great but it's a darn sight better than it was. We're already into this week's updates with BEHIND THE BLUE DOOR, but if you were looking at Mister Kitty last week you'd have seen a comic that consisted entirely of Nine-Panel Grids over in Stupid Comics- a comic by someone who really internalized a lot of the storytelling of "Watchmen" or lost a bet about how nobody could ever write and draw a comic where every page was a grid of nine panels. Whichever, it's tedious.
Found Sound, in the meantime, features selections from the first LP of Georgia's first son of comedy, Junior Samples. This will likely be gone tomorrow, as we switch Found Sound out every week.
So I was up too late on Sunday night, drinking a lot more diet Coke than I have lately - we've cut way back - and eating lots of sodium-enriched Chinese food, and consequently felt lousy all day yesterday. I feel better today, but still slept way too late.
