let's anime is five??
Jun. 5th, 2012 11:40 amThis summer I'll have been doing the Let's Anime blog for five years! I can't say I thought it would last that long, but then again, I never had any concrete plans about it anyway. I'll run some old articles and some new ones, that's about the extent of my planning. If I get two posts up every month I'm doing pretty good. I have a new one this week that takes a look at some bootleggy fakey anime items, but in terms of actual writing it wasn't too challenging. BTW, "Fake Bacon & Electronic Music Hotline" is a Negativland reference.
On the whole doing the blog has been a really positive experience; having actual readers means I'm compelled to actually research topics I would normally just handwave off or gloss over, and as a result I've learned way more about these stupid cartoons than I would have otherwise. I've come in contact with an entirely different group of anime fans across the country and around the world, the sorts of contacts that once upon a time you could only make in the con suite at Project A-Kon, back when the fandom was concentrated and likely to all be in one or two places every year. Now it's spread out all over and the people who like what I like might not even go to anime cons, which, let's admit it, can be filled with annoying people.
Another benefit is finding out what insane things people are searching for on the internet, and what combination of keywords leads them to your blog.
