sauce for the gander
May. 11th, 2016 05:41 pmSo there's one of these hilarious pop culture mashup t-shirt vendors at fan conventions who's now selling shirts that say "(name of convention) Is My Super Bowl". And some of the people who run the conventions that are named on these shirts are like, "how dare they use the name of our convention, that's copyright infringement or whatever." And I'm like, have you LOOKED in your dealers room lately?? It's copyright infringement T-shirt heaven in there!

Hell, makes me want to go to an art supply store and buy one of those cheap ass silk screening kits.
But you know, that, and the con reaction, is exactly what we can expect when a con drifts over into becoming an arts and crafts fair.
I recall one of the last Mediawest*cons I attended, still in that Holiday Inn (which had an honest to ghod Playboy Club for their restaurant. Never managed to eat there) just off I-96, and the dealer's room had become about 50% 'zines (and recall, that was the mission statement of the con, 'zine writers, artists, editors and publishers getting together) and the other 50% were SF themed dreamcatches, plush, filk tapes (SOOO MANY filk tapes), buttons, tees, on and on.
Of course this was the con that decided it was cool for people to bring their pets, buy them badges, make con tees for them, well, cats and dogs. no tees for the snakes and ferrets.
