Like most everybody else I haven't been posting as much on the LJ, and much of that is because this time of year is when things get really busy with shopping and all that Xmasy sort of thing. I've been trying to get one more Let's Anime out before the end of the year so I'll at least match 2010 in terms of post counts. Once we hit the road next Thursday - yes, this time next Thursday I hope to be sleeping soundly in a Motel 6 somewhere in West Virginia - I will not have a moment's spare time until sometime in January when our plane returns us from Los Angeles and my brief, shining moment in the nerd spotlight.

In the meantime you can hit Found Sound and enjoy a big whack of standup from some TV comedy stars like Bob Newhart, Don Knotts, and Johnathan Winters. You can also saddle up for some stupid Western comics starring everybody's favorite cowboy John Wayne.

Yes, John Wayne had his own comic book and his own sidekick and his own typeface and logo, it appears to be. Don't miss even a moment of the exciting Western action involving ghost towns and jugglers! Yes, jugglers.

To be honest I have way too many Western comics, mostly Kid Colt, Two Gun Kid, etc, from back in the day when I'd buy anything that was old and cheap. You'd think more westerns would be fodder for Stupid Comics, but it's a frightfully dull genre. When I start to think about dispensing of entire categories of comics, the westerns are top of the list, I believe.

I laughed thinking that the second panel after that splash page would have the sidekick guy saying "Bands don't play no more! Too much fighting on the dance floor!"

OK, see, clearly the comic writer had NO idea how to write Wayne. I don't see a single panel where he hauls off and punches someone. Nope. That's like a James Caan movie where he doesn't punch someone. Just not right.

And the artist! No way Wayne would ever wear his guns in such a sissified way! And what was wrong with those poor horses?!

Oh great, now I'll have that song stuck in my head for ANOTHER five years.

I would love to read a comic book that Wayne had script approval over, especially one from the mid-late 60s. Big drunken script conference transcribed verbatim, rendered into comic book form. It would make AXE COP seem normal.
