Today, or yesterday's Found Sound we explore the mysteries of outer space!

Well, okay, maybe some pretty basic facts about outer space. There's that song about how much you'd weigh on different planets, though, which everybody loves. We picked this LP up in that vintage store in Harrisburg PA; have to get back there sometime.

Sorry the posts have been kinda quiet here lately. The time change has really made me lazy. Yeah, that's it, the time change. Seriously though, when you're staying up late to watch Conan's new show every night, that'll take some wind out of your sails.

The physicist in me is bothered by "the bigger the planet, the more you will weigh". You would weigh less if you could stand on the surface of Uranus than on Earth even though Uranus' mass is about 14 times bigger than Earth because it also has a much larger radius so the surface is farther from its gravitational center.

There. I got that out of my system....

Isn't there still a question if Uranus HAS a surface? I guess 'surface' would count even if it was just a big ball of slush at the center, but THAT can't be because IIRC it has a decent magnetic field which supposedly comes from the spinning iron core (but we don't KNOW because we haven't ever gone deep enough to actually see what's what-for all we know the core of every planet is really chewy nougat surrounded by molten stuff) and...well, now I'm way over my head.

Hey, I managed that without turning it into a 'your anus' joke. Ah. dammit!

I was just going to say that this discussion is making me giggle, because I'm 12.

I was getting the giggles too, if only for the scientific mumbo-jumbo!

Listening to it, I was reminded of Singing Science.

We love you, way back machine!

EDIT: The MP3s are blocked, but I have copies if you like....
