Finally got to see the Little Mermaid, the Toei one from 1975. Not a bad picture, actually. I've never read the original story so I can't vouch for its authenticity, but it seems to be a little more accurate than the Disney picture which I've never seen. Yes, I am sadly unschooled in Little Mermaid. It's because I'm a guy. Anyway the Toei film resembles a really well-animated episode of Grandizer, mainly because a lot of the same people worked on it. The Euro DVD this print came from features trailers for Jack & The Witch, My Youth In Arcadia, Swan Lake, and the Ali Baba & The 40 Thieves - just the original Japanese trailers with some Portugese or Espanol subtitles on top. Man, that MYIA trailer looks sweet in the widescreen.

Yesterday I got up early for a doctor's appointment to get my abdomen ultrasounded. IT'S A BOY! No, my doctor is obsessed with my liver function and wants to keep the diagnostics guys downstairs busy. And then I edited video for Sunday's Old School Classroom at Con Bravo, which is starting just about now. I guess I should get in the bath and get down there. If you're in the neighborhood you should too! Look out for traffic on the QEW just past Winston Churchill. I haven't looked at a traffic report, it's just that there's ALWAYS traffic on the QEW just past Winston Churchill, at the Ford plant.

Ran some errands, edited more video, had dinner, watched Little Mermaid, edited more video, went to bed, that's the exciting Friday. Got a solid nights sleep last night, though (as opposed to Thursday, which totaled about 4 hours) so I feel much better.

We did go down to the lakeshore and look at the fireworks on Thursday, though. Brought the radio we only use once a year and some mats to sit on and some junk food. Great to hear the weird echo of the loud ones as they bounce off the buildings.

The new Yamato picture - the cartoon one, not the live action one - is getting screened at the Fantasia film festival in Montreal on Sunday July 18 and I just might be able to make that one. I'm thinkin' real hard about it, as Cowboy Bob McKenzie might say.

Now I'm off to Con Bravo, if you live here see you there!

You should go see Yamato: Rebirth. It'll be subbed. Also, War in Outer Space will be shown at some point this month.

Can't make Battle In Outer Space - that's the week they screw with my schedule AGAIN so I gotta work Saturdays. It would be nice to see those big UN spaceships on the big screen. Maybe the print will work its way down here to the T-dot.

well, all you need to do with the TONS of free time you have, so much leisure it's flowing from ALL your pores, is work with the AN people to host your own film festival! Simple!

Now for my plan to revitalize manufacturing in the US....

This will probably be your one and only opportunity to see Yamato Rebirth the way it was intended, and you should ABSOLUTELY do it. Within the first minute you'll see a wave-motion gun blast fill the big screen and you'll say, "holy SHIT Tim was right!" And from there it only gets better. Dude. You'll finally see a picture of Yamato that's bigger than you. Some scenes will actually be life size.

Plus, you'll be the first person I know who gets to see the subtitles. You'll know more about the story than I do! Come on, that ALONE...
