Nishizaki is busy with other things which may or may not be rumors so I can't be more specific. I *think* he's got some form of meaningless credit on the live movie (as in can't really affect a thing, like Roddenberry in ST II the Wrath of Kahn).

but it's pretty clear the staff are feeling the need to be true to the source, as much as possible. I mean, sure, the nifty white leather jackets might be seen as open faced pandering but ya know, I can go with that instead of the all too common "Oh, we can't look like THAT, it's too cartoony!" vibe that results in lots of leather, black leather, and straps.
