We picked up a bunch of these, a sequence from late 1960 and early 1961 of the Fleetway girls' comic SCHOOL FRIEND. Most of the artwork is fairly standard but "Dancers In Secret" is particularly well-drawn, very clean and sharp. It's about a mysterious masked ballet teacher who lives in a castle and hand-picks red-haired ballet students in order to solve a mystery. It's just a tad contrived, is all.

Speaking of contrived we have two cover songs of the same song which in its most popular form is a cover today for you at Found Sound today - AND Shain's strip races towards a conclusion today at Element of Surprise! This strip has guys kissing in it, which apparently is causing all sorts of trouble. Because that's what Mister Kitty is all about, causing trouble! And teaching ballet to redheads.

I'm still going through that disc you gave us at Xmas, it's jam packed with cool stuff.

It's like that Sherlock Holmes story about redheads. Only with ballet.

It's neat to hear new things to me! Noticed one of The 13th Floor Elevators tunes got pressed on a 45 that was put out by Hanna-Barbera (still amused they had a label then too).

Speaking of covers, I have one someplace for the Hendrix tune "Fire" by "Five By Five" (on Paula Records). I thought it was quite good.

If you ever see a nice copy of that HRB single, its worth about $200. I've never seen one in real life, only pictures on the internet.

Damn!

I was only lucky to find an HBR single of something less interesting years ago at some garage sale. Nowadays I'm not much into combing garage sales/thrift stores anymore, but if I ever see that particular record, I'll have to grab it if I do (unless it doesn't go for $200). Someone told me recently how these places like Goodwill are not bothering to be a little wise over what people give them by checking the net for prices and selling them there. Probably the one strike I have against the net when it comes to finding these things out quickly enough.

It's about half and half me flipping through singles at yard sales or antique malls, not because I'm not interested, but usually I'm tired or hungry or the place is about to close in ten minutes and I want to see what I can see before it's too late. I have found some awesome stuff in piles of 45s, though. I'm more likely to buy a 45 than an LP these days due to space issues - LPs chokin' me out of house and home.
