It's another amazing episode of "things in other countries are funny sometimes" as Mister Kitty looks at ads from old British children's magazines! Look & Learn all about fruit gums, "the streaker", "choc-top Whoppas" and "Toomorrow" today at Mister Kitty's Stupid Comics!

I still have a big stack of "Look & Learn" so if anybody wants one, let me know. I have "looked" and "learned" plenty myself so I'm kind of "looked and learned" out.

Plans for this weekend? Journeying out into the hinterlands to maybe pick up that issue of "Anime Iku" and buy some junk. Maybe see "Shutter Island". Write some stuff. You know, the usual.

While we're on the subject of British children's advertising, do a search on YouTube for "Pearl and Dean" and you'll find some of these ads in animated form. Also, something else I like about British kiddie ads on TV is that the prices are clearly marked. Moms and Dads will know how much the Princess Leia action figure will cost.

i think mousse is back to primarily being a dessert. i think the hair product had its heydey in the '80s, decline in the '90s.

We were in a barn full of antique and refinished furniture somewhere north of Courtice, Ontario, and I saw a dusty box full of magazines. I offered $20 for the box, and they were mine! I'll throw some in an envelope and send them your way. WARNING - they are musty and funky-smelling, some of 'em.

Most of the ones in good shape I gave to my dad to take to the school where they do reading programs, and a few I'm keeping for the especially interesting Frank Bellamy artwork, and I gave a bunch to Devlin, but I still have more than I need.

British cinemas seem to have had that approach to how advertising was done on screen that I don't see at all on American screens. Not sure how to put it, but it felt like it was a routine for them (especially when buying a ticket got you more than just a film in those days, you might even get an intermission).
