Friday night we went out the the Anime North Halloween thing they have at the Japan Center. Now that I'm working days this was the first time I've been able to get out there. The JCCC pretty much gives them full access to the building; AN has a dance and a video game room and a video room and a crafts table and a dealers' area, and we wandered around and had Japanese snacks and chatted with some AN folks and looked at the various exhibits the Center has, including a lot of material from the period during WWII when Japanese Canadians were interned in camps in the Canadian interior, in much the same way Japanese-Americans were interned in the US at that time.

I feel bad for neglecting a social thing on Thursday night. My sneezing is still a thing. I don't know what's going on with my sinuses but whatever I've been allergic to all summer needs to go away because it's not summer any more.

Saturday we didn't do a whole lot other than grocery shopping and a little house cleaning and general maintenance. Went down Queen St. for crepes around 9pm and watched people in costumes going to and from parties. Canzine was Saturday but we didn't go.

Sunday Donald & David came over and we got Chinese food & watched two old Universal horror pictures, "The Old Dark House" and "Bride Of Frankenstein". We'd all seen "Bride" several times, but the "Dark House" was new to us, featuring Karloff as a mute servant who was the template for Ted Cassidy's "Lurch", and a lot of great 30s acting.

While cleaning up earlier in the day I banged my forehead against the edge of a board and it's left a great mark, a bloody imprint that looks a lot worse than it actually is. I have a band-aid on it at the moment. We did laundry and vacuumed up a lot of corner dust and I cleaned a lot of marks off the floor and generally slicked the place up pretty well. Vacuumed under and around the refrigerator, which hadn't been done in a while. It was pretty scary under there.

edited to add photographic proof:

Been working on the next Let's Anime piece, which is a Prince Planet 50th anniversary thing, so I've been screen capping a lot of images from Prince Planet episodes and TV candy ads and doing finicky research into the other manga Hideoki Inoue worked on.

We didn't go walking anywhere, we didn't drive out of town to the sticks, we didn't buy anything crazy, we basically had an 'indoors' weekend apart from the AN thing at the JCCC. And that's kinda nice for a change. If anybody I know here had Halloween parties, I wasn't informed, and from what I can tell most everybody I know in Toronto either went to the AN thing or spent Saturday & Sunday goofing off on social media. The people we know here are our age and as Donald said, most people our age are too old for Halloween parties, even the grown up kind...
