Apr. 18th, 2016 10:36 pm-the new season of KIMMY SCHMIDT is funny and entertaining and seems a little sharper, more on-point than last season. Not as weighted down with backstory, I think.
-Mary Jo and Bridget riffed on CAT WOMEN OF THE MOON and it's pretty funny. It's a film I've long wondered why MST3K didn't do, and why Rifftrax didn't do, and now they did.
-I wasn't a MST3K fan for the longest time because most of its fans were super annoying YOU GOTTA WATCH THIS people who repeated the jokes over and over again. Got into an early GEnie flame war with (NAME REDACTED) because I felt, and I still feel, that making fun of 60s Gamera films is like shooting fish in a barrel. The later seasons improved and I think a big part of it was Mary Jo and Bridget, they're both pretty funny in ways that Joel, Frank, etc aren't.
-I got into the habit of watching the Sci-Fi channel reruns on Saturdays, was gifted a bunch of episodes on VHS, and it was "Riding With Death" that really sold me. That and their "Prince Of Space".
-Got a haircut, went out to Cootes Paradise in Hamilton and did some trail walking, had schnitzel and goulash at a place in Dundas, found some Maison Ikkoku at a thrift store in Flamboro. Sunday I went to the AN meeting and dug out some year one AN stuff for a panel and nailed down some panel times.
-New computer is working well, oiled the fans and taped up some rattling pieces and it's quieter. Still pretty noisy though.
-Weather has warmed right up, thank you. Sunday we walked down to the lake and on the lakefront trail and then up Bathurst and had half-price wings at the Wheat Sheaf. Lots of dogs, bikes, joggers, and Torontonians generally opening their cocoons and blinking in the sunlight and occasionally hollering "DRUG DEALING WHORES!" at passing cars, as one bewhiskered gentleman did at Bathurst & Lakeshore.
-This Friday is Passover at the Minuks and then this weekend is a comic book show that's, yes, just a big room full of longboxes, and I might just have a little extra cash to throw down on some more comic books, because that's what we need in this place, more comic books. Right?
