Whew, went by so fast! Saturday was our anniversary and the plan was for us to go trail riding out near Brampton someplace, but the rain put paid to that little scheme. So we went to the theater and saw 'The Conjuring', a spooky haunted-house picture based on a REAL LIFE case from a husband-wife team of real-life Ghostbusters. It's a reasonably spooky picture without a lot of gore or violence, and for once not a character in the film is an abusive alcoholic or suffering through any other crisis except vengeful spirits destroying what's always a lovely home full of great antiques. This movie's set in the early 70s, too, and it gets its Brady Bunch in before the audience does (you'll see). Then we had a lovely early dinner at The School where, upon hearing it was our anniversary, gave us free dessert. Thanks guys!! Then we went down to the Tiff to see GALAXY EXPRESS courtesy the Japan Foundation and the TAAFI Animation festival. Lovely, if well-loved, print and a good crowd was entertained if slightly confused; the insertion of Matsumoto's signature characters like Captain Harlock into the narrative gets less relevant the further we get from 1979.

Sunday we hustled down to Con Bravo! to do our Stupid Comics panel. But first we stopped off in the video game/gaming hall to see what coin-ops were operating for our fun - nothing really caught our eye. But the vendor was also selling vintage arcade memorabilia, including tons of those plexiglas display panels from the front of arcade cabinets. Shain spotted this one and that was that, it was coming home with us.

It's from the Taito Lupin III arcade game! No, not "Cliff Hanger", but a different game entirely. Though if they'd had a "Cliff Hanger" I would have bought that as well. So flushed with acquisitory success, we blasted through two hours of Stupid Comics to a small but enthusiastic crowd, and then we took David S. on a ultimately pointless tour of the Hamilton area before winding up at the new downtown location of Hillbilly Heaven, which is as close as I have come to finding Southern style BBQ up here in southern Ontario.

Con Bravo itself, we only got to see a few hours of it, but the crowd seemed pleased and enthusiastic and people seemed to be having fun. The Hamilton convention center seems like a good fit for the show and I hope we're able to spend more time there next year.

Anyway, we made it back to Toronto, I got to work on Zero Fighter and Shain posted both that and Element Of Surprise (warning, this week's installment contains antique furniture!!), and suddenly it was Monday. And that was our weekend! Thanks to everyone for their anniversary wishes!
