your Friday, my Friday
Nov. 18th, 2011 03:53 pmBeen a busy week full of working early, working late, houseguests, and bad kittys. Got a haircut, ran some errands, gonna go buy an office chair today, those are my big weekend plans.Found Sound is up with the Wendy song and the Hot Stuff song, and Stupid Comics will be up later today. It is actually pretty awesome in all kinds of ways.
If you aren't checking out the new Comics Journal site then you're missing out on a lot, including regular articles about gekiga, weird forgotten Japanese comics of the 50s and 60s, and other amazing archeological data that should be of interest to anyone with a passing interest in the Showa-era pop culture that wound up being lodged in so many of our brains like shrapnel from a long forgotten war.
I've been working on a Cyborg 009 article for Let's Anime that if I get fifteen minutes today or tomorrow I should be able to knock out. I've written about 009 before on several occasions and every few years they either make a new one or I find out some bit of appropriated cultural data that Ishinomori wedged into the property, and of course it demands an update. I'd like to get a few more posts up at the blog before the end of the year, at least beat last year's post count of 19. So you might be seeing some fairly inconsequential Let's Anime blog posts soon. Yeah, I know, to become a 'real blogger' I need constant updates and keywords and whizzariffic blogoporifastic bells and whistles, or something, but that's too much like work.
There's a SF con in Toronto this weekend, a SF con in Philadelphia this weekend (Phil-Con, which may actually be the longest-running SF con anywhere) and an anime con in Virginia, I think. And a comic book show downtown on Sunday. Busy weekend for conventions. I probably won't be at any of them.. the comic book show is a maybe, but not a very strong maybe. Might just hold onto our cash until the Feb. show.
EDIT: Oh yeah, this weekend is also Yule-con in Dallas and the Waterloo Festival Of Animation, which doesn't do a great job of promoting itself as I always hear about it the Sunday it's over. Busy weekend!
One con I WILL be at is Anime Los Angeles, mainly because I am the Fan Guest Of Horror, I mean Honor. It's January 6-8 in beautiful Lost Angeles at the Airport Marriott. If you're in the neighborhood why not stop by and heckle me? It's been years since we've been in SoCal and I'm looking forward to it, particularly getting out of Toronto at a time right when the winter is kicking in with a vengeance.
We'll also be driving down to Atlanta for Christmas so we'll have some time in the old neighborhood between Xmas and New Year's. If you want to see us, you know where we'll be, right where everybody used to hang out all weekend in the days before we all got our own places. It's 1990 all over again!
