Yesterday was the SF/ANIME FLEA MARKET at the Toronto library downtown. I got a table and sold a bunch of stuff. The stuff is getting whittled down, I didn't have nearly as much junk to haul down there this time, and I didn't have nearly as much to haul back home. One bag went to the thrift store. Picked up some cheap stuff from the other tables including a DVD of GHIDORAH THE THREE HEADED MONSTER, one of my favorites for the period stuff, the assassins vs police, reporters, Peanuts, etc. Princess on exploding airliner would later be used in HARMAGEDDON for those keeping score.
I made some money off the sale, spent some of it on lunch yesterday, went out today to the Aberfoyle antique show and spent the rest of it on a Richie Rich comic, a British digest reprint of the Dracula story where he eats a hamburger, and a whole gutload of Soakys. "Soaky" was this bubble bath thing from the 60s where you'd get a plastic Superman or a Bugs Bunny figure that contained the bubble bath, so you could take a bath with your cartoon pal. They're kinda collectible and we usually see them for $10-$25 each. I got the whole lot for $4 each; it includes Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, Woody Woodpecker, Bugs, Elmer, Alvin of the Chipmunks fame, and freakin Mister Jinks And Pixie And Dixie. Also non-Soaky figures of Babalooey with his giant hat and a couple of Jergens Lotion eskimos. And a Barney Rubble from some non-Soaky soap company. So that was kind of a haul for $40. Some of them will be getting sold so if you know anybody looking for a Bugs Bunny Soaky, get in touch with me.
of course every time I mention "Soaky" I think of the Lyres song "Soapy". That's been running through my head all day. Then I have to listen to the Lyres.
Weather was gorgeous outside. I love the early fall, warm enough but not too warm, sunny, town's fulla movie stars for TIFF.
Just finished up this week's ZERO FIGHTER strip and it will be going up shortly. I listened to the Lyres while drawing it. Also X and Robyn Hitchcock. Right now it's time for a late dinner and watching a terrible late 70s horror movie. And then it's Monday!
