i'm goin' down to the record shop
Mar. 28th, 2011 11:29 amThrew caution to the wind yesterday and caught the last hour of the record show over on Broadview yesterday. Strangely enough prices were decent and I got some interesting stuff, including an Australian boot of the first "Pebbles" LP, a novelty single about the Kennedys, and famous mystery LP by "The Masked Marauders".
Worked on and completed this week's ZERO FIGHTER and then we watched MYSTICS IN BALI, the ONLY film you'll see this year featuring a death-duel between Balinese super sorcerers, talking flying fire balls, and a witch using another woman's flying head & internal organs to suck the blood from newborn babies. Approaches Cronenbergian levels of body horror in parts, but usually not quite that coherent.
If YOU aren't reading the new Comics Journal site and their in-depth exploration of gegika and the roots of alternative manga, you are doing yourself a disservice. This is the REAL THING peoples. I've been reading the TCJ site for like ten years and with this new relaunch (editors Dan Nadel and Tim Hodler) they're finally living up to their potential.
