my eyes were opened wide
Nov. 30th, 2010 12:16 pmWent to the optician yesterday and got my eyes checked out. They got dilated, but not as badly as the last time years ago, which resulted in me having to lie down with something over my eyes for a few hours. Picked out some new frames and everything. My old glasses have served me well, but the frames are approaching the end of their service life.
New ZERO FIGHTER strip up; I am at a good stopping point and I don't know whether to just quit for the month of December, take some Xmas time off, build up a backlog of strips again, or keep going for a few more weeks. I did this toothbrush thing to get texture for an asphalt surface in this update; been reading some old 2000AD strips and you see that a lot there. Of course I would have saved myself some time had I not pasted it down physically onto the artwork - Photoshop makes that sort of thing a lot easier - but old habits die hard.
After phone calls, visits to electrical supply houses and various Home Depots, Ronas, Lowes, and Wal-Marts, I bit the bullet and bought a new fixture to replace the one that houses the off-brand, off-size burned out vanity bulb in our bathroom. It wasn't too pricey, the irritating thing is why a contractor would put fixtures in a unit requiring bulbs that can't ever be replaced, unless you buy an entire case of bulbs from China. I suppose when you get a container-ship container full of cheap fluorescent units, you gotta use them somewhere, but it makes things tough for the people who actually have to live here. Between that and the vent hood in the kitchen, the only issues we've had with this place have been with appliances, and cheap appliances at that. (Oven, fridge, dishwasher work swell).
Now comes the fun of putting the thing in. Actually the fun part will be removing the old unit. It's fixed to the particle board behind the mirror, with epoxy. That will be interesting to remove.
We won't be taking a two-week car odyssey down to the States for Christmas this year. I can't get that kind of time off this time, so we're flying down and back. Hopefully the TSA will be merciful with our junk. It's just as well we aren't tempted to hit those antique malls on the way, we have enough tacky gee-gaws to last us a while.
Sorry if yesterday's rant seemed cold-hearted. I just saw one weepy fan memorial too many, put me over the edge. Man up, people! Grow a pair! No wonder the commies think we're soft!
