In spite of having houseguests all weekend, there's a new Zero Fighter strip up this week. I'm that professional, man! Mike and Prairie came to town for the MLS Cup in which Colorado beat Dallas and footy fans from all over converged to marvel at the new RR underpass on Dufferin. About time, I must say. While here Mike finished his latest ANN column which I was consulted on as a grizzled veteran of the anime club scene of the 80s and 90s. Mike also clued me into the online comic GUNSHOW and its hilarious "Anime Club" story. Just scroll down and click on the "Anime Club" on the left. You will think KC Green has been watching you secretly. And maybe he has.
Anyways we did some shopping and a little sightseeing and got to see pix of their South Africa trip and met up with
jupe for breakfast on Saturday; Mike and Prairie hadn't seen her since 2001 or 2002 and I had met her once at AWA in 1999. But now they're gone and the cat can relax. I never did find that vanity bulb for under the mirror in the bathroom - Jomar Electric is willing to order me a case, but that's a little extreme. I guess I should just get the case and then sell them to the other residents. It would be cheaper to just take the fixture out and replace it with something that takes a more standard bulb size.
Went to the comic book show on Sunday and pickin's were slim. Mostly tons of five year old comics nobody wants for $3 each. That one dealer with the incredibly high prices is always there. I am really curious if he actually finds people are willing to shell out $90 for DC romance comics from the early 1970s that have been 'personalized' with ballpoint pen on the cover. We got some fairly interesting stuff, but nothing incredibly super awesome. Well, if that stuff was everywhere it wouldn't be incredibly super awesome, now would it?
Speaking of conventions, plans are underway for Anime North next year (http://www.animenorth.com/main/), happening May 27-29 and featuring me in a variety of Special Video Event roles showing crazy cartoons to the masses. The Doubletree and the Radisson are already sold out so if you wanted to stay there, you're hosed. Con Bravo will return - well, the con is coming back, but to a new hotel (Burlington Holiday Inn) and to a new weekend later in the year (July 30-31). I had fun last year and I encourage you all to attend and to look out for the traffic on the QEW near Winston Churchill, where there is always traffic. http://conbravo.com/ I might just get a hotel room and throw some kind of stupid party or something. Toronto isn't really a convention party town, but who knows? Maybe I can get something going. Promote Mister Kitty and trouble in general.
