I am writing a thing about anime zines in the 80s and early 90s for the upcoming Colony Drop zine. Somebody really needs to make a cookie or a candy called the "Colony Drop". Or maybe a drink. Anyway, I'm plugging along and it's at the stage where all the meat is there, it just needs to be kicked and punched until it assumes a coherent shape. And it's at that point that I realize that while I have intimate knowledge of the anime zines of the EDC and of the national C/FO and of, say, Anime Hasshin and the Boston Japanimation Society, From Side To S.I.D.E. and C/FO Atlanta-Anime X and JACO and Psychomu Gaijin and JASFA, and Space Fanzine Yamato, and the other stuff you've seen me write about at Let's Anime, I don't have a lot of information about the newsletters that may or may not have been published by anime clubs in places like, oh, I dunno, Seattle or Detroit or Chicago or Milwaukee or New York City or non-C/FO stuff from California or anything from Canada besides Anime House fanfic zines (Protoculture Addicts doesn't count, I'm trying to stick to nonprofessional zines).

So if you have any raw data about pre-1990 zines - dates of publication, number of issues, editors, content, funny stories - let me know. I will be eternally grateful. You can comment here or you can email me:

oh yeah, check my Let's Anime articles out first, I might have covered it already... though I probably didn't. The more you learn, the more you find out you don't know.
