Fellow at the local anime club once asked me what I do for a living, I say I'm a writer, I do anime and game reviews and features and stuff for X, Y, and Z. He says to me, wow, that's awesome, you could go to all these conventions and do panels and get in for free.

I say, what in the hell would I want to do that for? He gets this blank, perplexed look on his face.

I dunno. The appeal of being a fixture on the con circuit just escapes me.
